It has been recognized as one of the world’s best culinary destinations, mainly thanks to its biodiversity along with its multicultural heritage, that reflects the mix of cultures that arrived in Peru over the last 500 years. Over 2,694 varieties of Potatoes can be found, such as national Pisco and one of the greatest gastronomical festival around the world, that prove why Peru has positioned itself as the gastronomic capital of Latin America.

Best Time to Travel

Peru  is one of the most bio-diverse countries on the Planet. The seasons of the year are similar to the rest of the southern hemisphere: the Summer, December to March (the rainy season in the highlands and jungle), Autumn, March to June, Winter, June to September, and Spring September to December.

However, Peru is composed of hundreds of microclimates, and varies across the country because of its differing landscapes: mountains, coast and jungle. Therefore, it is worth distinguishing the main specific climatic differences according to each region.

Coast

Includes the region from Lima and desert destinations of Nazca Lines, Paracas and Huacachina, with a dry season from November to April, when there is very little mist and the temperature reaches 30 °C. Mainly, this region features warm temperatures, a moderate weather but with high humidity and thick mist in Winter, from June to September.

Andes Mountain

The highlands have two seasons: Summer, dry season (April – October), with sunny days and cold nights, and Winter, or wet season (November – March), when rain is frequent and heavy. During the day the temperature can reach 24 °C and at night fall to -3 °C.

Amazon Rainforest

The jungle, has two well-defined seasons: the rainy season (December – March), with abundant rainfall, and the relatively dry seasons (June – December), with low water. Humidity is very high throughout the year. Occasional “cold snaps” or “surazos” occur between May and August, when the temperature falls to 8 °C – 12 °C.
